A NEW BIKE FOR CLASSIC RIDES We don't see road bikes as delicate machines meant only for putting watts into and receiving speed from. They're an extension of our soul, of the way we want to see our worlds, and the lives we want to live. Sometimes that means cutting across park grass, and sometimes it's seeing where that dirt road off to the left leads you. The Caledonia-5 is a bike for the modern road rider. The Caledonia is the bike we keep reaching for when we know the odometer's going well past the triple-digit mark. Long rides invariably have some smooth tarmac, some junk pavement over backroads, a cutty singletrack connector, and maybe even your own local Strade Bianche sector. So we built a bike that could take on all of them, do it well, and fit fenders in case the ominous clouds turn into a downpour 130km into your day. We developed the Caledonia-5 in collaboration with our World Tour riders to satisfy the need for a dedicated cobbles bike. Faster handling isn't necessarily better-we engineered the handling based on the specific use-case. In this case, it's Roubaix. Roubaix is harder on bikes than any other race on the calendar, and there's zero margin for error. We increased the rear center, lowered the BB, and increased the trail. The handling is still fast, but we've added stability. Modern road riders are looking for bikes to handle long-distance, high pace, no limits, and offer maximum fun. By placing lower modulus carbon in key areas to mitigate the brittleness of hi-mod fiber-the Caledonia delivers performance, comfort, and speed. Oh, and you can fit a 34mm tire in there. Flat Out. That's how Aspero debuted under the characters of the Wednesday Night Rough Club two years ago, and that's how it's stayed. And because at Cervelo we know that flat out doesn't stay flat out for long without a little help from science, we've come back from the drawing board with a new Aspero. A faster Aspero, a lighter Aspero, and—dare we say it—an even better-looking Aspero. Our engineers like to say, "If it looks fast, it probably is"—but there's some truth to it, and Aspero-5 looks fast standing still. No cables in the wind, tubes derived from our library of aerodynamically proven shapes, and just a hint of a cut out in the seat tube to squeak out just a bit more tire clearance, add up to a bike that proves the adage. Lightweight Speed Some might say aero doesn't matter on a gravel bike, but if you've battled a headwind across an open prairie, the thirty-two grams of drag you'll save with the Aspero-5 come as a welcome respite. Most gravel racing is done without the benefit of a World Tour peloton—or World Tour tactics—and when it's your nose in the wind all day, it's nice to know your bike's shouldering a bit of the load. Two-Position Adjustment "Trail", or front wheel response to rider input, is the most critical factor in high-velocity handling. The ability to adjust trail with the two-position "Trail Mixer" to compensate for the extreme range of tire sizes ensures a uniform ride experience. Multiple Configurations We engineered the bike to fit most 700x42 or 650x49 tire/wheel combos, comfortably. Of course, there are variables—rim width, tire casing/tread depth—which will affect final clearance. IMPORTANT NOTE: We always recommend there to be 4mm of clearance around whichever tire/wheel combo is installed on the bike.

Featuring our lower-link mounted shock design, updated, adjustable geometry, this "Engineering Best Of..." assembles some of our biggest design pleasers into one belter of a road-trip companion. The Hightower has been a does-it-all-well trail bike since its inception. More maneuverable than its longer-travel sibling, the Megatower, and more at home in the steep-and-chunky than its snappy cousin Tallboy, Hightower excels when the route covers 'all points in between,' and descents come courtesy of some big-ass climbs. The VPP suspension's lower-link-mounted shock creates a nearly linear leverage curve, meaning it mops up bumps of all sizes and maintains the kind of progressivity normally reserved for our V10 DH bike! 145mm of rear travel complemented by a 150mm front end gives Hightower just a bit more front and rear travel over the first generation model. Combined with a slacker 65-degree head tube angle, the Hightower still sits squarely in the Goldilocks zone, but with a touch more "Oh sh*t, get me out of here" capability when the porridge gets too hot! Balancing stiffness and weight savings in all the right places is a hallmark of all Santa Cruz carbon frames, and the Hightower flies the flag yet higher. The advanced composite chassis tracks well across all trail surfaces, holds a line, and is reactive to rider directions while isolating pedal-influenced inputs. The Hightower also has a bonus disc to heighten the experience: the flip chip. In the High setting, the BB height is a little higher for those tricky tech trails and/or when Plus sized tires are required. As we tried to stuff bigger tires into our R5s and streamline our Asperos, a new kind of bike was born. When we design a bike, we start with our library of tube shapes. These shapes are tubes we've used on other models that we know to have various qualities-aerodynamic, stiff, ultralight, etc.-and they help get us to the refinement stage on a bike more quickly. In the case of Caledonia, we wanted durability, lightweight, and aerodynamics to be in balance and selected a package that achieved the performance demands of this kind of race bike. Caledonia uses a standard round bar, stem, and seat post, giving riders the option to build their ultimate ride without compromise. This R&D facility with a small factory was set up back in the day when Gerard was co-founder/owner of Cervélo. It resulted in both the R5CA and RCA models, two road frames that redefined lightweight bike frame production. The facility’s owner/operator Don Guichard and Gerard have stayed in touch since. So when Don wanted to do a bike project again, we decided to go on a new journey to make something special. While the two frames have a lot in common, the completely new tools and processes used in California result in a frame that is around 75 grams lighter yet stiffer in all directions except in the continuous seattube (where it actually provides even more flex than the original MIN.D. This combination makes the ride something very special. COMFORT Comfort is not about gimmicks, elastomers, electronic suspension or sub-atomic vibration damping graphene-infused nano-particles. It's about finding ways to ride further, for longer, while enjoying it. A comfortable fit geometry comes first. Our aim is sportive (we still want to go fast) but with a realistic saddle-to-handlebar drop and reach. Secondly, bad roads are one of the worst comfort killers, whether through cracks and potholes or simply through vibrations. Making your tires a tad larger is the most effective comfort boost while also improving rolling resistance and grip. Finally, we create comfort through the frame shape and layup, in particular the seattube/seatmast and the seatstays. CONTINUOUS SEATTUBE The continuous seattube design is extremely small at 25mm diameter (30mm is normally the minimum if you want to fit in a 27.2mm seatpost). This change adds astonishing comfort to the frame. Removing the seatpost/seattube overlap at the toptube also means the seattube compliance continues uninterrupted. Our own minimalist seattube top clamp is nearly invisible yet easily adjustable by 0-15mm and slip-proof. We even have our special MOCT saddle clamp (Measure Once Cut Twice) which is adjustable from 15-35mm. This also makes it much easier to resell your frame later on, although you probably never want to lose your MIN.D. And don’t worry about traveling with the seatmast. We recommend the Scicon Aerocomfort 3.0 which let’s you travel without even removing the saddle (up to 80cm saddle height) or by removing the saddle+top clamp (up to 85cm saddle height). You don’t even have to remove the handlebars or twist them; all you do is remove the wheels and pack the bike. This bags fits tons of gear, rolls well and offers great protection. SIMPLICITY It may sound weird that we consider this one of the most important features of the MIN.D. But as Dieter Rams said: “As little design as possible” (we highly recommend the documentary and the book). This is a pure road bike, and nothing more. DOUBLE-DROP CHAINSTAY The U.P.’s dropped chainstay has become our most copied frame feature ever. No wonder, as it is a great way to create more tire clearance. The WI.DE. goes one better. By dropping both chainstays, the monostay just behind the bottom bracket becomes a very efficient box structure. This increases BB stiffness, reduces weight and squeezes even more tire clearance out of the frame. TIRE CLEARANCE Finding ways to fit the biggest possible tire into a bike with road geometry and road cranks is one of our specialties. The WI.DE. does this thanks to the double-drop chainstays mentioned above and a dedicated 1x frame design. Since most of our customers run 1x drivetrains, we can use the inner chainring space to move the chainstay outward and increase tire clearance. As a result, the WI.DE. comfortably accepts up to 2.4” (61mm) tires in 650b (or 46mm on 700c wheels). Actual tire width depends on tire model and rim width, so measure instead of relying on the tire label. SPEED & HANDLING Most riders know that with the right bike geometry, even big tires can be fast. The WI.DE. takes this to the extreme. Of course a massive tire is not as fast as a pure road tire, but the delta is small enough that it doesn’t detract from the on-road fun. And off-road, there is no comparison. TRCinTRS™ TECHNOLOGY Forget “100% hi-modulus aero-space carbon”. It’s not about high- or low-modulus, it’s about the right carbon in the right spot (or TRCinTRS™ as we mockingly call it). Fact: stiffer carbon is more brittle. So it's great for stiffness (on the sides of the downtube) but bad for impact loads (for example around the headtube). Hence the best lay-up is a blend. We strategically place the ultra-high modulus (very stiff) carbon where we can, and tougher grades of carbon where we must. That’s how our frames are both light and durable. U-TURN Our U-Turn fork has always had massive tire clearance, making it the perfect match for the WI.DE. It’s also very light, thanks to another OPEN innovation: Smartmount. Smartmount attaches the caliper directly onto the fork, without any adaptors. The mounts are positioned pre-set for 160mm discs (the only sensible choice for gravel bikes). Lighter, cleaner, stiffer and safer. Check the specifications for more details on how to mount each brand of caliper. “STUFF CARRYING CAPABILITY” As your Wide Detours get wider, you want to take more stuff but without it getting unwieldy. So you can mount an extra bottle under the downtube and a toolbox under the BB, ideal for stability. The tool box mounts are off-center to create extra clearance to the chainring. If you don’t use a toolbox, you can mount a larger water bottle under the downtube. THE EVERYDAY BREAKAWAY BIKE The Soloist. It’s a name from deep in our history, but immediately familiar to anyone with bike racing memories extending back to the early-2000s. It was the weapon of choice for top World Tour contenders on CSC and the Cervelo Test Team, and we’re bringing it back for a new generation. The new Soloist is designed for the week-in, week-out rider and racer who can only justify one high-performance bike. It balances light weight and aerodynamic advantages to deliver a bike that really is 'just right'. Soloist comes in a hair lighter than S5, but significantly more aerodynamic than R5, and borrows the threaded bottom bracket standard you find on the R5-CX. That’s the Soloist. FAST LIKE S5, LIGHT LIKE R5 Soloist sits right between S5 and R5 on the performance scale, while having a price tag that’s less World Tour, more Road Trip. It’s about 250g heavier than R5, and 250g lighter than S5. It’s 190g slower than S5, but 126g faster than R5. You get the idea. It’s the ‘just-right’ answer for the rider trying to find a smart, intentional compromise. HIDDEN FROM THE WIND, NO BLEED NECESSARY The cable routing is inside the frame for aerodynamics, but doesn't go through the stem. We developed our own system that threads the cables under the stem, but through the bearing cap. Whether your position changes or you loan the bike to a friend who uses a different stem length, you won't need to bleed the brakes to swap the stem.
